• Quality, Compliance and Health & Safety Manager (Elstree, UK)

Job description

Monday to Friday 9.00am-5.00pm – 35 hrs per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality, Compliance and Health & Safety manager to join our company, Sumitomo Electric Europe Ltd, at our head office in Elstree.

This is a key role, whereby you will be accountable for ensuring that our company complies with industry regulations and that all our employees act in accordance with our Code of Conduct and follow policies and procedures at our UK/branch offices across Europe (Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Finland).

You will be responsible for ensuring that everyone in our offices, warehouse, service centre and laboratories follow health and safety rules to maintain a safe workplace for all. As a result, we are looking for someone that is able to effectively communicate and influence employees at all different levels via different media. It is therefore imperative that you are able to confidently present information and deliver training sessions for everyone, and conduct risk assessments, inspections and resolve any issues promptly.

You will also be responsible for maintaining our Quality ISO 9001 accreditation through delivering a programme of internal and external audits and rectifying any non-conformances quickly. It is important that you appreciate the need for continuous improvement and are able to develop company policies and procedures, as well as work with various departments to review and update theirs.

As a company representative, you will need to collaborate with managers, employees, external agencies and contractors, and other Sumitomo Electric Group affiliated companies, so being able to build good working relationships is a must, along with providing timely and relevant guidance and advice.

With this role there will be the occasional requirements to travel to other offices within the EMEA region, including overnight stays.

To be successful in this position, you will need to have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ previous work experience in either a Compliance or Health and Safety role
  • Experience of providing pragmatic business advice
  • Experience of organising and delivering training courses
  • Experience of conducting ISO Audits and Risk Assessments
  • Experience of developing and reviewing company policies
  • A degree and a relevant Health and Safety qualification
  • A member of IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent certified or have a ICA Certificate in Compliance (desirable)

It is also highly desirable that you have no passport restrictions for travel within Europe or to our parent company’s offices in Japan.

• Financial Controller (Elstree, UK)

Job description

Monday to Friday 9.00am-5.00pm – 35 hrs per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to lead our dynamic Finance team at Sumitomo Electric Europe Ltd. at our head office in Elstree.

As head of the Finance team, the Financial Controller will be supervising all aspects of financial and management accounting. It is a key role in our company, whereby you will be responsible for a wide variety of financial reporting, analysis and compliance tasks to provide accurate and timely financial data for senior management and authorities. This will involve:

  • Preparation of statutory accounts
  • Managing the treasury function with multiple currencies
  • Ensuring compliance with UK GAAP and regulations
  • Managing internal and external audit processes
  • Producing annual budgets and analysing variances
  • Managing credit control and effective risk identification

You will be leading a team of five employees who are based across the UK and Italy. Therefore, you will need to be a great motivator with previous experience of managing people to drive performance and meet objectives.

In addition, you will be required to travel to Europe occasionally for short trips with overnight stays.

To be successful in this position, you will need to have the following experience and qualifications:

  • 5 years or more post qualified experience in a similar position with at least 2 years at management level
  • A recognised UK accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or similar)
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid knowledge of UK GAAP or IFRS
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced level skills in Excel
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP Business One preferable)
  • Ability to deal with all employees of differing levels and cultures in a professional manner
